Not long ago I presented to you a product from a new brand called "Daily Concepts®" which recently landed in Switzerland and today it's time to share with you another product from their range. This is a konjac sponge. I know konjac sponges had a moment of popuarity in 2010 or so, but I personally never tried one, so I was very excited to put this particular one to the test and share my experience with you!
What exactly is a Konjac sponge and what does it do?
Konjac is a traditional Japanese jelly-like food, made from a kind of potato called “Konnyaku potato”. Konjac has been traditionally used in Japan as a beauty treatment for a long time due to its properties. The Konjac sponge is highly absorbent in both water and oils and is excellent for a thorough cleansing. It also has a great function to break down skin's dirt and balance pH.
Daily Concepts® has a range of three Konjac sponges for different purposes:
- Konjac Sponge-Pure has no preservatives, no chemicals and no colour. In other words, just PURE.
- Konjac Sponge-Charcoal has no preservatives and no chemicals, it does have bamboo charcoal that helps absorb impurities to purify and deep cleanse your skin. In other words, Exfoliates and Detoxifies.
- Konjac Sponge-Turmeric has no preservatives and no chemicals, it does have turmeric that has been known to heal and prevent dry skin. Keeping the skin supple and improving its elasticity. In other words, Hydrating and Regenerating.
- 100% natural, Konjac Root.
- Preservative free.
- Environmentally friendly.

My experience:
The sponge has the perfect size to fit your hand but is big enough to cleanse your face and neck at ease, I believe it is much bigger than the regular konjac sponges you find in the market. The packaging is very practical too and can be mounted with a suction cup as a holding pouch for your sponge! I immediately adopted this as it keeps my sponge clean and nicely stored until my next use!
I love this sponge. Where has it been all my life? How come I never tried this before?
Let me tell you how I use it. In the mornings I use it either alone or with the smallest drop of cleansing gel. I get my sponge nicely damped under the running water and then gently massage my face with it . I then rinse my face and rinse the sponge, squeeze the remaining water out and put it back in its little hanging pouch. In the evenings I use it as a second cleanser. I first take off my makeup with a milky makeup remover or with my balm-to-oil and once that's done, I wash my face with the sponge, as I do in the morning.
The Konjac Sponge Pure is super delicate and gentle and I noticed it has two different textures in each of its sides. One of them is smoother than the other, but none is really rough! I love that this sponge does not physically exfoliate my skin so I can use it daily or even twice a day without problems even with my sensitive skin.
It is a great ally for travelling! I did take it with me on my short vacation to Majorca earlier this month and I loved how practical it was. I also love that it can easily be used under the shower or in your sink or even your bath!
I've been using it for almost four weeks and I've even forgotten to use my Foreo Luna in occasions, I'm so charmed by this sponge. It is adviced to replace the sponge every three months for hygienic reasons, and I'm planning on getting the Tumeric Konjac Sponge next time, I believe its hydrating and regenerating properties will be great for me during the winter.
